Beyonce fans, like myself, will be delighted to know that the songstress has released a new track entitled, "Die With You." The song is meant to be an anniversary present for her husband and fellow artist, Jay Z. It's very slow, understated and intimate. The video itself is very intimate as well, as it is personally recorded by Jay Z himself. All in all, it is a very romantic and beautiful gesture from the Queen of Pop to her King on their seventh anniversary.
If you haven't seen it yourself though, it may be a little harder than just a simple youtube search. Jay Z has kickstarted a new streaming service called 'Tidal,' on which he has promised to release exclusive media to Tidal subscribers. The video for "Die With You" is one such example. I was able to watch the video without subscribing when it was initially released; however, it has since been removed from all websites, etc. Jay Z is definitely making good on his promise to his subscribers, and what better way than to feature his own wife's original material?
From a marketing perspective, I think there is both good and bad associated with Jay Z's new service. Jay Z and Beyonce both have a huge fan following, and therefore releasing exclusive material on Tidal will draw those fans in to subscribe. However, there are many who may not be able to afford a separate service just to listen to their favorite artists, and this could potentially result in a loss of audience.
Tidal will also be featuring other artists and is not just restricted to Jay Z's own family. It will be interesting to see how this venture pans out as we have become so accustomed to finding everything online for free. I am unsure of Tidal's future, but one thing is for sure, Jay Z made a smart move by utilizing his own wife's stardom to initiate the service's launch.
